Journeyman Nevada Electrician – Requirements To Become One

Like most trades, learning how to become a Nevada electrician requires a combination of educational and training programs. The training is very extensive. If you want to pursue this path, the education continues even after you have received a license. In order to become a journeyman Nevada electrician, you must have at least four years of experience within the last 10 years. An apprenticeship program can help meet this requirement. A typical apprenticeship program requires 8,000 hours of on-the-job training. This equals four years worth of work experience. Apprentices must also go to school at night. They must attend school three hours each night, for a total of 144 hours of school each year. Once you complete an apprenticeship program, you must obtain an electrical contractor’s license to start working as a Nevada electrician. The license only covers a certain scope of work. Going outside that scope of work or working without a license will result in serious consequences, such as fines or jail. The first step to obtaining a license is completing an application. The application requires references, a resume, a financial statement and relevant background information. The next step to obtaining a license to work as a Nevada electrician is to pass the written Construction Management Survey exam and other trade exams. There are a limited number of times you can retake the exams if you do not pass the first time. Finally, before a licensed is issued, you must pay certain fees and provide proof of insurance. An electrical contractor’s license is valid for only two years. A Nevada electrician must fulfill a certain amount of continuing educational credits in order to maintain and renew a license. If you decide to work for a company as an electrician, the company may have additional training you need to complete before you can begin working. The extensive training and exams are important because journeymen electricians must to be able to identify and fix very complicated problems in electrical systems. They must also be able to help customers understand various electrical issues.
